Breton House - Center Overview

The Algoma Substance Abuse Rehabilitation Centre has a rich history of providing a safe and supportive environment for women seeking recovery from chemical dependency. Founded in the early 1980s, this rehabilitation centre evolved from a local chapter of Women for Sobriety into a fully operational recovery home for women. With funding secured from the Ministry of Health and contributions made by the Federal Government, the United Way of Sault Ste. Marie and other community supporters, the agency was able to purchase property and establish Breton House in 1986.

The centre’s mission is to offer opportunities for women to grow and change in their pursuit of recovery from addiction. The centre is governed by a volunteer board of directors chosen from the community for their qualifications and skills to ensure policy-setting and governance of the programs are of a high standard, while the staff implements and provides the service delivery of the programs. Today, the Algoma Substance Abuse Rehabilitation Centre continues to provide a safe, structured and supportive environment for women seeking recovery from chemical dependency, going beyond treating addiction itself, the centre looks at uncovering the underlying issues that have led to the addiction to give the clients the best chance for a sustainable recovery.
