Vitanova is committed to helping individuals overcome substance abuse by offering effective and individualized treatment programs. The facility operates on four core organizing principles, each of which informs the approach taken to develop effective rehabilitation programs.
Abstinence-based:
At Vitanova, we recognize the severity of the opioid crisis as well as other forms of substance addiction. We are committed to offering clients a choice when it comes to the approach to treatment that they wish to pursue. Our abstinence-based approach provides individuals with the necessary tools and support to overcome substance addiction for a sustained period.
Client-centred:
Our focus is on restoring the potential of the individual as a valued member of a fully-functional family and a contributor to the community at large. We acknowledge that all clients represent a unique mix of strengths, weaknesses, needs, and circumstances. As such, we take a personalized approach to develop and execute individualized treatment plans.
Holistic:
At Vitanova, we understand that different client groups have unique needs when it comes to substance addiction. As such, our programs are tailored to meet the emerging needs of client groups. The Vitanova model began as a one-on-one counseling service but has evolved into a comprehensive program that includes life and job skills training, in-depth assessment, and ongoing follow-up contact to ensure sustained recovery.
Culturally-sensitive:
Vitanova recognizes that individuals from third-language communities often require specific care that takes into account their different ethnocultural backgrounds. To this end, our facility is equipped to offer language-sensitive services that address the specific needs of individuals outside the Anglophone and Francophone community. We also require the active participation of family and community members to ensure the effectiveness of our programs.
Vita Nova Foundation - Center Overview
Vitanova is a non-profit rehabilitation center operating in Vaughan, Ontario, Canada. The center has a rich history in the local community and was established in response to the growing issue of substance abuse. The idea for a non-profit corporation and charity to address the problem of substance abuse was first conceived in a meeting held in the offices of VitaSana/The Family Health Magazine at 3300 Steeles Avenue West in Concord, Vaughan. Subsequently, VitaSana shifted its location to Woodbridge, where the first Vitanova fundraiser was organized—an operatic concert featuring soprano Maria Pellegrini, held at York University’s Burton Auditorium.
Over the years, Vitanova continued to expand its services and reach out to those struggling with addiction. It moved to a bungalow at 7720 Kipling Avenue in Woodbridge, where counseling groups were administered, and then to a larger 11,000 sq. ft. space located at 90 Winges Road, Woodbridge. The latter had a spacious gymnasium, ceramic workshop, kitchen, meeting rooms, and offices. The center currently operates from its present location, which it moved to in 1995. The center has made significant strides in reaching out to people dealing with substance abuse issues in the areas of Vaughan and beyond.
