The Niwichihaw Aboriginal Addiction Counselling service is an outpatient addiction treatment program. The people accepted can be of any age, adults, young people, etc. They have to go through an assessment first, and then they will go through usual counselling. The program also includes some optional traditional aboriginal healing, such as tribal rituals and teachings. There is also prevention in the program to make sure that the people really do make it. Afterwards, the program can act as a referral program. The Niwichihaw Aboriginal Addiction Counselling Service provides prevention, assessment, referral, and counselling based on the medicine wheel. Drawing on traditional healing practices 15 and Elders, it promotes healing from addictions and from intergenerational trauma such as sexual abuse
